The First Post-Jan. 25 Project with Aid from China Broke Ground in Ismailia

The groundbreaking ceremony was held on the morning of May 16 2011 for the China-Aid Project of Fishery and Aquatic Products Training Centre in the old university campus of the Suez Canal University in Ismailia. Minister-Counsellor Mr Li Lianhe and Economic & Commercial Counsellor Mr Chen Lin from the Chinese Embassy, as well as senior officials from Ismailia governorate, Egyptian Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation and the University were present to witness the commencement of the project.

According to the opening remarks, this is the first project with aid from the Chinese Government, and from any foreign country as well, to Egypt in post-Jan. 25 era. Designed with annual capacity of breeding 35 million fries, 150 million shrimps and planned to be completed in one year, the project is going to be the first fishery and aquatics R&D and training center of excellence in Egypt, the Arab world and throughout the whole African Continent. It will benefit both the Egyptian and African people by training local fishery experts, forming a new aquatic farming industry, creating business and job opportunities, and raising income for people engaged.
