On January, 24th, 2018, a contract signing ceremony was held in Alexandria between China’s new energy carmaker
BYD and Alexandria Passenger Transportation Authority. Minister Mohamed Sultan, Governor of Alexandria, Mr.
Khaled Elewa, Chairman of Passenger Transportation Authority, Mr. Ahmed El Wakill, Chairman of Egyptian
Federation of Chambers of Commerce, Mr.Hassan Soliman,General Manager of BYD Egypt Company, Mr.Xu Nanshan,
Chinese Consul General in Alexandria, Mr. Han Bing, Minister Counselor for Economic and Commercial Affairs of
the Chinese Embassy in Cairo, Mr. Huang Zhixue, Sales representative from BYD Group as well as representatives
from the Egyptian military responsible for construction of new administrative capital are present in the ceremony.
The contract is awarded to BYD through an international tender, BYD succeeded among many international and
Chinese competitors by its advanced technical proposals. The offered model of BYD K9 12-meter pure electric bus
is a mature product widely operated in many countries around the world. The order includes 15 electric buses and
18 charging poles.
The contact has a significant meaning as it is the first electric bus contract in the history of Egypt. While Egypt is
planning to transfer from the normal fuel buses into new energy electric buses for public transportation. Meanwhile,
Egypt is also considering adopting new energy car system in the construction of its new administrative capital.
