The China Beijing International Fair for Trade in Services, or Beijing Fair for short, was co-hosted by the Ministry of Commerce and the People's Government of Beijing Municipality in 2012 with the approval of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council, in an effort to boost the international competitiveness of China's service industry and trade in services, and give full play to the role of the two areas in accelerating the transformation of the economic development model. It was renamed the China International Fair for Trade in Services in 2019, and its abbreviation Beijing Fair was changed to CIFTIS in 2020. Since then, the CIFTIS has been on track for an upgrade as China enters a new development stage.

The CIFTIS is a comprehensive, large-scale exhibition and trading platform with a global reach dedicated to trade in services. Under the strong leadership and high-level attention of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council, the CIFTIS has emerged as the largest comprehensive fair for global trade in services after years of development. Chinese President Xi Jinping has delivered keynote speeches via video link or sent congratulatory letters to the CIFTIS for five consecutive years, stating that "the CIFTIS is a crucial platform for China to expand opening-up, deepen cooperation and pioneer innovation, which has made a positive contribution to promoting the development of global service industry and trade in services."  

Committed to "Global Services, Shared Prosperity", the CIFTIS acts as a platform for the display, exchange, negotiation and cooperation in global trade in services, with the goal of becoming the most influential service trade event worldwide. All countries and regions, international organizations, business associations and institutions at home and abroad, and world-renowned enterprises are welcome to participate in exhibitions, foster negotiations and seek cooperation at the fair, thereby working together for an open, shared service economy and injecting impetus into global economic development.
